Biography

Sofía Centurión is a young Uruguayan artist born on April 23, 2004 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Drawing, painting and sculpture are the languages that are part of his pictorial work,

A work that, in addition to being autobiographical, can be distinguished by its
eclectic, reflecting the artist’s interest in discovering new tools that
allow us to reach results that are more closely coupled with the concept behind each work.

“"My artistic practice is an ongoing introspective exploration, where the main focus lies in
my condition as a human.
Diving into what I understand as the vulnerable and destructive nature of our species.
I intend to identify and expel the idealization within my work, leaving out the intentional search for superficial “beauty” of the image, in the context of a world where it seems necessary to pretend, appear and simulate.

I cling to what I consider “real”. I am searching for truth, an image that feels strongly alive.

On the other hand, I understand that exploring the material I am working with, such as oils, clay, charcoal, or graphite, is a fundamental part of my work.
The material I select must be in constant dialogue with the image, it has to correlate with the idea and be coherent with it.

I seek through art to reach a deeper understanding of my surroundings, get to know myself and the world I live in. Perceiving it in the deepest ways, that only are possible through creation."”
